what to do with waste series, no. i

$800.00

this series of sculptures will explore and focus on the process of using waste materials to create an object that is wholly new and whose form is itself informed by the shapes of the waste materials themselves. i have no preconceived ideas of what these sculptures will look like, no sketches, it is all just a gradual building, first using our own household waste materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill (think un-recyclable plastics/ packaging, used tape, broken kids toys, etc.) to build an armature and then refining the form with recycled paper clay that i make from scratch using our household junk mail. in this way, the series is completely about process (my favorite part) and the end result is always surprising. my hope is to create beautiful pieces that will be treasured for lifetimes, serving as a reminder that we have a choice about what to do with our trash. the sculpture is burnished with a linen lime paint finish and varnished for protection.

this piece is approximately 14”x14”x11”

each sculpture from this series comes with its own unique dust bag (expertly constructed locally by Courtney of Harkin Studio) for storage and transportation, itself made from deadstock/remnant fabric and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
